Global music icons, multi-platinum selling artists and one
of the most successful rap music
acts of all time
The Sugarhill Gang was formed
in New Jersey in1979 and became the first ever
commercially released popular rap group.
Sugarhill Records is the first rap label started
by the legendary Sylvia Robinson.
Ms. Robinson is also credited with
the creation of the rap group
The Sugarhill Gang.
"Rapper's Delight" was the first rap song to air on commercial radio in 1979, opening the door for the new genre of rap music.
Rap music goes mainstream with Sugarhill Gang's world tour and televised performances
introducing rap music to the world.
The Sugarhill Gang experiences the highs and the lows from their instant fame and success navigating through the newly formed rap music industry.
The two remaining members of The Sugarhill Gang
reunited in 2005 with the addition of long time
bandmate and confidant Hank HenDogg Williams,
and DJ/singer Diamond "Dynasty" Temple.
The group reassembled taking on new ventures and
tours with the intention of reminding the world of
the impact they had on rap music.
Present day, the group is as busy as ever as they
continue to preserve their legacy with interviews,
guest show appearances, award ceremonies and highly
anticipated performances on worldwide stages.
